Silver Girl

I have to admit that my favorite time to fish is when the Silver's are running. There isn't anything better in my book. Silver's are the perfect combination of good sport and good eating! Besides catch-and-release Rainbows, I always fish to put food on my table, and Silver's are the best size.

Silver's as we like to call our Coho, are the most fun to catch. They fight like crazy and they'll jump high out of the water giving you the best show in town. At an average of 8-10 pounds, they are not the largest game in the stream, but you'll get plenty of action and enjoyment hunting for these prized Autumn fish.

Silver's, when they don't have lockjaw!, like to go after bright shinny tackle, and I find a tried-and-true Pixie (tm) in bright pink or orange works about as well as anything. I have a medium weight spinning rod with about 15-pound test and a single hook. I don't personally like treble hooks cause I rarely keep the keep the first few fish I catch. While it is pretty satisfying to catch your limit in 20 minutes, I like to make a day of it and enjoy my time out on the river.

So I may be a one-trick fishergirl, looking forward to next August and my favorite Silver's giving me a run for my money, but I'll still get my line in the water come spring and chase after all the salmon heading home. Nothing beats those shinny bright Silver's arriving to let me know summer is winding down.
